They were not reported missing until March 1975, five months after their disappearance. It was the family's landlord that told the police they had disappeared.
Police found Denman's clothes still in the closet of their residence. Harbison's clothes and clothes of the children were missing, however. Blood was also found on a cushion in the home, but laboratory tests on the stain were inconclusive.

KCTV5 News, Weather, Traffic and Sports for the Kansas City Area | Reward Offered in 1975 Missing Persons Case

March 2, 2006

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The family of a woman and her two children who'd been missing since 1975 has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to their safe return.

Freda Loretta Denman and her two children were last seen on Nov. 10, 1974 at their residence in the 100 block of East Kansas in Independence.

Their landlord reported the three of them and Denman's husband missing on March 24, 1975.

Denman's husband, who went by the names of Michael Johnson, Henry Johnson and Henry Lee Harbison, was 37 years old. Denman was 27. Sheri Lynn Johnson, her daughter, was 4 years old. Denman's son, Michael Lloyd Johnson, was 10 months old.

At the time of their disappearance, Denman's husband was a fugitive from justice, and it was initially believed that he had moved the family while fleeing from law enforcement, according to a news release from Independence police.
